Arrive to Cuzco, and transfer out to the beautiful Urubamba Valley (Sacred Valley of the Inca’s) where we’ll spend the next two nights. On the morning of Day 2 experience the famous Pisac Inca site and vibrant Pisac market. The market is on every day, however on Sundays there is also the local indigenous market. We stay in Ollantaytambo and you’ll have time to explore the township and the Inca ruins. (2B)
A highlight of the trip is taking a scenic train ride through spectacular mountain vistas to Aguas Calientes – then transfer by coach to Machu Picchu – the “Lost City of the Incas”. Machu Picchu, rediscovered by archaeologist Hiram Bingham in 1911, is one of the most beautiful and enigmatic ancient sites in the world. After our guided tour of Machu Picchu we return to Aguas Calientes, time to relax in the hot springs or enjoy the ambiance of this unique location. (B)
Travel to Cusco, by train and van. A half day tour today reveals to us the ancient city that was known by the Incas as the “Navel of the World”. We also visit the surrounding Inca site of Sacsayhuaman. Cuzco is an exquisite mix of Incan and Spanish colonial influences. On day 5 you have a free day to explore Cuzco and enjoy the special atmosphere. Browse in the many craft shops, enjoy a coffee overlooking the plaza, or relax in the courtyard of your colonial style hotel. The day is yours.(2B)

We’ve designed this tour to add on to any of your travels in Peru or South America. As long as there are two of you, you can depart any day of the week. The Inca World is a fascinating snapshot of the areas of Cusco, the Sacred Valley of the Incas and of course Machu Picchu.
Though we consider this an active sightseeing tour, you don’t hike the Inca Trail. Instead you spend an insightful few days in the Sacred Valley, visiting spectacular Inca sites, bargaining at local markets and a learning about traditional textiles at a weavers village. Culminating at Machu Picchu.
You’ll need to be able to walk lots of steps at the Inca sites and we spend the day at Machu Picchu, again wandering up and down the ruins.
Our Amazon Lodge can vary depending on availability, however we usually book Sandoval Lake Lodge, which entails a 3km walk to the lake. In the dry season (May to September) it’s a flat dusty path where you may spot monkeys, macaws, leaf cutter ants and a variety of birds. In the wet season however, be prepared for mud to the top of your gumboots (provided) and slower going. So if you may find it a bit harder then, spare a thought for our porters bringing in all the gear!
The wildlife viewing is great in either season, though in the dry months you may have more chance of seeing the giant river otters resident in the lake. Walks around the lodge are relaxed and focused on spotting wildlife. There are also many dawn and dusk canoe rides as this allows you to get really close to the animals.
