PAYING LOCALLY

Most of our journeys involve a local payment. Paying locally allows us to keep the overall cost of our tours competitive and pass the savings on to you. These funds are put towards local expenses. In some developing countries the transferring of funds is at times problematic so this is a way to help us manage our tours, whilst saving you money. This is especially true of Argentina since the devaluation of the peso. Payment is to be made to your leader upon arrival in cash.

All prices are approximate and subject to currency fluctuations until final payment has been made.

DAY 1 - ARRIVE BUENOS AIRES

Arrive in Buenos Aires and meet your fellow tour participants this evening. Stroll down the pedestrian avenue of Florida for a bit of shopping and a relaxing wander around the leafy suburb of Recoleta.

DAYS 2 & 3 BUENOS AIRES

Enjoy a half day city tour to explore the Paris of South America. No visit to Argentina is complete without learning more about this unique culture. So we spend the evening enjoying the cultural and culinary delights of the “Argentine Experience”. On our final day in BA, spend free time strolling the avenues, exploring the markets and in the evening we all head out to celebrate at a spectacular Tango Show! (2B, 2D)

DAYS 4 & 5 IGUAZU FALLS

A short flight takes us to the most beautiful and spectacular waterfalls in the world –Iguassu Falls. There are 275 falls along 2.7 kilometres of the Iguazu River. Enjoy a half day Brazilian Falls tour and a full day Argentine Falls tour the spectacular “Devils Throat”. There are many walkways to explore on both the upper and lower circuits, plenty of wildlife and the option of a boat trip right up to the falls. (2B)

DAYS 6 to 8 – PURMAMARCA, SALT LAKES & HUMAHUACA

The next few days find us off the beaten track, exploring canyons of multi coloured rocks and surreal erroded formations. We venture high into the Andes to catch our first glimpse of shimmering salt lakes, but we have to be flexible with the itinerary and the exact places visited will be determined by local conditions as we are here towards the end of the rainy season. Please be prepared for some long travelling days. However you will be amply rewarded with stunning scenery and the privilege of visiting less touristed areas. On day 8 we journey back to Salta, one of the most beautiful cities in northern Argentina. In the evening we’ll able to sample a peña restaurant. Loved by locals as much as by visitors they serve up wonderful regional food and have live shows of traditional dancing. (3B, 1D)

DAYS 9 & 10 - SALTA & CAFAYATE

We’ll drive south for the day and enter the Quebrada de las Conchas, the scenery changes from vibrant green fields to cacti and dramatic bright red hills. With many stops to take in the canyon, we arrive in Cafayate the wine region of Northern Argentina. Enjoy the village atmosphere and savour some superb Torrontes wine, a speciality of the region, before returning to Salta. Free morning to relax and enjoy the local craft market for great souvenirs , or ride the cable car up San Bernardo Hill for a spectacular view. Afternoon flight to Mendoza on day 10. (2B)

DAYS 11 & 12 – MENDOZA WINERIES

**Note: the November departure will have extra winery visits instead of the Harvest Festival.

Mendoza is nestled at the foot of South America’s highest mountain, Aconcagua. This balmy city has a very relaxed feel that lends itself to wandering the tree lined avenues. On the February departure we’ll be here at harvest festival time, when the streets will be filled with stalls, parades and entertainment to enjoy. Enjoy a full day winery tour to Lujan de Cuyo: the most important wine region in Mendoza. Some of the best Malbec in Argentina is in this region, where you will taste exquisite wines and be served a multi course wine matching lunch. On the February trip, get ready for a spectacular performance in the open air amphitheater, featuring over 700 performers. You’ll be treated to a picnic dinner of delicious local wine and food. Also enjoy the festivities of the main Parade or Carrusel, which is a huge event and loads of fun. You’ll have grapes, wine, fruit and other trinkets thrown at you from the floats. See the harvest queens of each region and watch the splendid horses and gauchos. 2B, 1L, 1D

DAYS 13 & 14 – SANTIAGO

Embark on a spectacular coach journey over the Andes range to Santiago and the Chilean wine regions. We’ll have time to visit nearby wine regions and Santiago’s city centre, before our farewell dinner together, celebrating a stunning tour. 2B, 1D

DAY 15 – DEPARTURE

Today our NZ tour participants will have a late night flight on LAN out of Santiago, giving them the opportunity for a full day optional tour to vibrant Valparaiso.

MARCH TOURS WILL RUN IN REVERSE FROM SANTIAGO TO BUENOS AIRES

Please email us for the reverse itinerary.
